2017 Election

67% TURNOUT Elects New Mayor and Three New Council Members

PT Wood defeated incumbent Mayor Jim LiVecchi, while Harald Kasper defeated incumbent Councilwoman Melodee Hallett in Ward 3. Former council members who ran as a block with Ms. Hallett also lost, as Dan Shore defeated former Councilwoman Monika Griesenbeck in Ward 1 and Justin Critelli defeated former Councilman Richard Leavitt in Ward 2.  The margins were substantial, and are listed in the table below.

The 67% turnout was high for an off-year municipal election.  In the 2016 presidential election, only seven states had higher turnouts.

Two candidates ran for each of the mayor and council seats in the November 7, 2017, Salida municipal election. The first candidates to declare are listed under the Candidate column and the second to declare are listed under the Opponent column.  The incumbents who held those seats are also listed below.

During the 2017 campaign for the City of Salida municipal offices, One Salida provided information on issues raised by candidates or that were pertinent to the activities of the Salida City Council and its members.  These issues fell into the categories of GROWTH, HOUSING, and GOVERNANCE that are discussed on this website.  One Salida outlined these issues in its flyers entitled Imagine and Good Leadership.  The outgoing mayor Jim LiVecchi summed up his record and presented his views on issues he sees as remaining in a post-election guest opinion in The Mountain Mail.  These links, as well as those in the Candidates table below, can be followed to review the 2017 election campaign.
